● Business case · November 2026

The most trusted voice in marketing has no media kit.

Influencer already works with creators at every size. This is the case for adding the tier below nano: the trusted circle, everyday people whose friends ask them what to buy. It runs on Waves and Ocean, and it builds a data asset competitors can't copy.

00 The moment

I found a natural gas rate of $0.44 a therm and posted it to my Instagram stories. Many people replied, some to thank me and some to ask how.

I'm not a creator. I'm the person my family and friends text before they buy something, because they know I've done the research. Every one of those replies was a conversion. The energy company paid me nothing, and none of us had a way to make that happen.

1The trust is real: my friends acted because I said it, not an ad.
2The money isn't: every referral program is set up differently, and finding one often isn't worth the effort.
3No one can see it: the brand never learned which advocate, which circle, or which income band drove the switch.

Millions of people already do this unpaid every day. Whoever organizes, verifies and pays them will own the most trusted tier in marketing.

01 The whole landscape

Influence doesn't stop at 1,000 followers.

The industry splits creators into tiers by follower count. Influencer covers the top of that ladder well. No one serves the rung below nano at scale. Tap a tier to compare.

Tier cutoffs follow common industry convention; sources vary slightly. Engagement is the Instagram median by tier10. Nano post rates are from Afluencer12. The trusted-circle tier is this proposal's definition.

02 Why now

The money is moving down the ladder.

The market is large and growing fast, and budgets are shifting toward smaller, more trusted voices. Analysts disagree on the market's size, so every estimate is shown side by side.

02b The K-shaped economy

Brands want to reach the people still spending. Trusted circles are grouped by income.

Consumer spending is concentrating at the top. Even the more conservative estimate puts the top 10% of earners at more than a fifth of all US spending. Friendship networks are also sorted by income: the largest study of US social networks (~72M people) found strong income homophily. Higher-income people mostly befriend higher-income people9.

So an advocate's household income predicts their circle's income. A verified, income-banded advocate network is a premium audience brands can't buy on Meta, and it comes with trust built in.

Top 10% of earners' share of US consumer spending

Two credible methods, about 2× apart. Either way, they are the largest single block of spending.
03 The performance question

Smaller tiers engage more. Whether they convert better is still unproven.

Brands will ask whether they should move budget to a tier that may or may not perform better. The honest answer: engagement and trust data are strong. Conversion data is thin and mostly from vendors.

Median engagement rate by tier

Percent. Each step up the ladder roughly halves engagement.
Strong evidence

Trust and engagement

83% trust friends and family over every other source6. Word of mouth is the primary factor in 20–50% of purchases, and matters most for expensive and first-time buys7. Nano engagement is 2–5× mega's on both major platforms10,11.

Unproven

Conversion and ROI by tier

Claims like "nano converts at 4–7% vs. macro at 1–3%" come from vendor blogs, and I couldn't trace them to original studies. Mega still wins on raw reach and cost per thousand views.

This gap is our opening.

No one has outcome data across all tiers. Influencer has 6,000+ campaigns and 90,000+ contracted creators. Add verified-purchase advocates and Influencer can publish the first cross-tier conversion benchmark. That becomes the reason brands move budget, and a data asset competitors can't easily copy.

04 The field

A crowded space, split three ways, with no single owner.

Creator platforms pay people who already call themselves creators. Brand-side tools turn one brand's customers into affiliates. Rewards apps pay for proof of purchase. None of them combines all three with enterprise brand demand.

05 The product

Circle: one place to share what you love, and get paid for it.

A consumer app for advocates, connected to Influencer's existing platform. Advocates declare the brands they love, prove they buy them, and share from one wallet. Brands find them in Waves, and Ocean handles contracts, disclosure and payouts.

05b Plugs into the platform

Not a side project. A new tier across all of Influencer's products.

Circle feeds the same data layer as Waves and Ocean, so the platform's shared data and connected workflows get more valuable with each advocate.

The flywheel: verified purchases and outcomes → sharper matching in Waves → more brand budget → more advocate earnings → more advocates.

05c Standardized contracting

Scale comes from removing the negotiation, one tier at a time.

Bespoke contracts make sense for a creator worth $50K a post. For an advocate earning $40 a quarter, the contract has to be a checkbox. Ocean already automates contracts and payments, so this extends it rather than starting from scratch.

Creators

Micro

Effort per deal: medium

Nano

Effort per deal: low

Trusted circle

Effort per deal: none

Verification

Prove you buy it

Plaid confirms the store from bank data. Knot TransactionLink pulls item-level orders from retailer accounts like Amazon and Walmart26. Add receipt scanning, email receipts, and UK Open Banking for Influencer's home market. Verified owners earn higher commission.

Day-one breadth

Thousands of brands without signing each one

Affiliate networks (Impact, CJ, Rakuten Advertising, Amazon Associates) put thousands of existing programs in the wallet on launch day. Directly signed Influencer clients get top placement and better terms.

Weekly habit

Shopping list → cart

Referral apps fail because people open them only a few times a year. A shopping list gets opened weekly. Instacart's Developer Platform has a Shopping Lists API, with commission tracked through Impact on the whole cart25.

06 Business model & pricing

Four revenue streams, each priced against a known benchmark.

Brands pay mostly on outcomes, so the trusted-circle tier is low-risk for them to try. Influencer earns platform and data revenue that compounds as the network grows.

STREAM 1

Network take rate

15–20%of each advocate commission

The brand pays commission on verified sales. Influencer keeps a share, and the advocate gets the rest.

Benchmark: ShopMy keeps ~15% of commission31 and takes up to 2.9% of sales16.
STREAM 2

Waves Circle module

$2K–$5K/moper brand program, tiered by active advocates

Program software in Waves: recruit from the network, set terms and assets, see verified results. Enterprise pricing is custom.

Benchmarks: Social Snowball $199–499/mo + ~3%20; Duel prices per active member22.
STREAM 3

Managed Circle campaigns

Retainer +a cost-per-acquisition premium on verified sales

Influencer's core strength: campaigns run end to end across creators and advocates, in one brief and one report.

Builds on current managed services and the existing Creator Affiliate offering1.
STREAM 4 · YEAR 3+

Verified audience insights

$50K+annual data license per client

Anonymized, consented reports: who verifiably buys and recommends a brand, by category and income band.

Benchmark: Ibotta made $342M in 2025 from CPG brands paying for verified redemptions23.

These price points are proposals for testing in the pilot, not validated pricing.

08 Roadmap

Small bets, clear kill criteria.

Prove it with clients Influencer already has before building a consumer business. Each phase has to pass a gate before the next one is funded.

Phase 0 · 0–6 months

Pilot

  • 3 enterprise clients: one high-ticket, one CPG, one services
  • ~5K hand-recruited advocates through client customer lists
  • Links from affiliate networks; manual verification
GateVerified-sale cost per acquisition ≤ paid social. ≥25% of advocates active monthly. Kill if cost is >1.5× paid social after two cycles.
Phase 1 · 6–12 months

Wallet at scale

  • Circle app v1: loved brands, wallet, share kits
  • Trusted Circle tier in Waves Discover
  • Ocean: click-through terms, auto-disclosure, micro-payouts
Gate50K advocates. First paid Waves Circle modules. Take-rate revenue covers verification and payout costs.
Phase 2 · 12–24 months

Habit & data

  • Shopping list with Instacart handoff
  • Item-level verification (Knot, receipts, UK Open Banking)
  • First cross-tier conversion benchmark published
GateWeekly active use ≥ monthly-active baseline. First verified-audience insight deals signed.
Phase 3 · 24+ months

Open the network

  • Small-brand self-serve, which adds supply to the wallet
  • "Follow my picks": curated circles
  • Higher-ticket categories: energy, finance, travel, B2B software
GateNetwork effects show: brands join for the advocates, advocates join for the brands.

Duel (London)Best strategic fit: brand advocacy software, UK-based like Influencer$16M Series A, Sep 2025; $21M+ raised22. Recently funded, so pricier.
SuperfiliateAffordable tuck-in: co-branded advocate pages for US DTC brands~$5M raised; ~$5–9M revenue (est.)21
Price benchmarks: Social Snowball sold to Dotdigital for ~$35M on ~$5M ARR, about 7×19. Mavely sold to Later for $250M18. Whalar's deal with Accenture was valued at $225–300M27.

Risks and how to handle them

RiskMitigation
Disclosure complianceEvery share kit carries a disclosure by default; Ocean logs it. This follows the FTC Endorsement Guides28 and the UK ASA/CMA rules, and is a selling point for brands.
Privacy and consentVerification is opt-in and only confirms purchases. Insights are aggregated and anonymized. GDPR-first design for EU/UK.
Cold startDemand comes first: Influencer's clients seed the network. Affiliate networks fill the wallet on day one.
Conflict with creatorsPosition the trusted circle as a feeder tier: advocates who grow get offered nano and micro deals. Creators keep bespoke campaigns.
Fraud and self-referralVerified identity, purchase checks, and payout holds through the return window.
Thin grocery marginsThe case leads with take rate and software. Grocery is a habit and data play paid for by CPG budgets, not by per-item commission.
● The ask

Influencer humanizes brands. The trusted circle is as human as it gets.

Next step: a 6-month pilot with three existing clients to test the cross-tier benchmark, the take rate and the Waves module. Then we decide whether to scale it, with real numbers.
